ILB goes Britain
Monday:
On May 5th we met at Vienna Airport at quarter past five in the morning. We all felt tired, but excited. Our plane landed at nine o’clock at London Heathrow. Our coach drove us to our first stop Kings Cross and some of us took a photo of the Harry Potter platform 9 ¾.
The next stop was St. Paul’s Cathedral and we went up to the Whispering Gallery and some of us even went to the top of the cathedral and admired the wonderful skyline of London.
The last stop was the Tower of London. There was a souvenir shop and most of us went in. Then the coach took us to Folkestone. We arrived at half past six and waited with curiousity outside the coach for our host families who picked us up there.
Tuesday:
After school we got to know the centre of Folkestone and went to the pedestrian area where we were free to look around. Afterwards we went to the beach on the Zig Zag Path. Then we went up the cliffs by the leas lift.
Wednesday:
On Wednesday afternoon we went to Hastings by train. There we visited Blue Reef Aquarium. There were a lot of fish. We especially liked the rays. Afterwards we went to the pedestrian area in Hastings where we could stroll around for one hour.
Thursday:
On Thursday morning we went to Dover Castle by train. We walked from the train station up to Dover Castle. The weather was cold, windy and foggy. It was raining “cats and dogs”. Nevertheless the tour through the castle was very interesting and we enjoyed the trip.
Friday:
After school we went to the centre of Folkestone, where our teachers had prepared a scavenger hunt. After the scavenger hunt we went to Folkestone Beach. We had a lot of fun there.
Saturday:
On Saturday we met at a 7:15 a.m. at the train station. We went to London, where we first saw Buckingham Palace. We watched the “Changing of Guards”. Then we walked through St. James Park, there were a lot of animals: ducks, swans, squirrels... After that we went to Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. We had our lunch break at Covent Garden. Our highlight of London was the London Dungeons. We went back to Folkestone by train. We arrived there at 10:15 p.m.
Sunday:
On Sunday we went to Canterbury. In Canterbury we visited Canterbury Cathedral which was very impressive. In the afternoon we took an interesting boat trip. Canterbury is a small city but very nice.
Monday:
On Monday we met at 8:15 a.m. and our coach brought us to Hever Castle. We enjoyed a guided tour through the castle and then we walked through the charming gardens and mazes.
Afterwards the coach took us back to Heathrow Airport where we had to wait for a few hours until our plane finally brought us back safely to Vienna, where our parents were already waiting for us.
